When it comes to managing a diverse crypto portfolio—on the go and across multiple devices—the Ledger Nano X stands out as a popular and convenient choice. With support for over 5,000 coins and tokens, Bluetooth connectivity, and a sleek, travel-friendly form factor, it’s often seen as the ultimate multi-asset hardware wallet for everyday users.

But how secure is it really? And how does it compare to other hardware wallets? In this review, I’ll walk you through what the Ledger Nano X gets right, where it trades convenience for security, and why it's still an essential tool—just not for your deep cold storage.

How I Used the Ledger Nano X

I’ve used the Ledger Nano X as my main wallet for altcoins and staking portfolios since 2021. The initial setup was straightforward—seed generation, PIN setup, and app pairing through Ledger Live took under 10 minutes. Ledger Live remains one of the most polished hardware wallet interfaces, offering live price feeds, staking support, and direct swap integrations.

I especially appreciated the ability to manage funds from my iPhone via Bluetooth. I tested transfers of Ethereum, Solana, and even some stablecoins like USDC and DAI without needing to plug into a computer. I also tried holding and tracking niche tokens like RLUSD and XDC alongside more established assets such as XRP—Ledger Live even displays real-time XRP price and XDC price data for quick balance checks. Signing is fast and painless, and the Bluetooth range is solid—making it ideal for on-the-go wallet checks.

However, for larger Bitcoin transactions, I found myself uneasy. The small screen makes it difficult to fully verify addresses, fees, and amounts without relying on the software interface. Unlike air-gapped wallets that display all critical data upfront, the Nano X limits what you can see—and you have to trust that Ledger Live is showing you the correct info.

Ledger Nano X: Still One of the Best Entry-Level Hardware Wallets

The Ledger Nano X strikes a great balance between security, usability, and portability. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to move beyond mobile or software wallets without diving into the complexities of fully air-gapped devices. With Ledger Live, Bluetooth support, and multi-asset compatibility, it’s one of the most beginner-friendly hardware wallets on the market—yet powerful enough to manage staking portfolios and a wide range of cryptocurrencies.

It’s a reliable and easy-to-use entry-level hardware wallet that brings peace of mind without overwhelming you with complexity. And as your crypto holdings grow and you consider more advanced, air-gapped cold storage options, the Ledger Nano X still has a place in your setup—whether as a travel-friendly hardware wallet or even as a clever decoy wallet (just make sure to fund it appropriately).

If you're looking for a secure and intuitive way to start self-custodying your crypto, the Ledger Nano X is a smart first step.

Build Your Cold Storage Crypto Hardware Fortress—One Layer at a Time

The Ledger Nano X is a powerful crypto hardware wallet and a great starting point for building a truly secure setup for your digital assets. While it offers convenient connectivity (like Bluetooth), even a strong device like the Ledger Nano X works best when you combine it with other important security steps. This includes things like having a tough metal backup for your seed phrase and setting up a secure routine that keeps your crypto mostly away from online threats.

Whether you're just starting your crypto journey or want to make your current storage safer, the Ledger Nano X is a big step forward. But remember, it's just one part of the bigger picture of keeping your digital assets safe.
